They don’t call it “social” media for nothing. It doesn’t matter whether you’re an individual, a small business, or a large corporation; social media is about interaction. So instead of sitting back and watching all the action happen, get in on it. Got a Twitter account? Pay attention to what your followers are saying. Let them know you’re listening and get in on the conversation. There are so many people out there to connect with and learn from. Don’t let them get away. Social media gives you access to millions of people that you would otherwise never know, but because of modern technology, now have the opportunity to not only connect with, but build real relationships with. Relationships that could potentially help you reach your own goals.
So what’s the first step to getting involved? See what people are talking about and decide what you can contribute to the conversation. Or better yet, start a conversation! Ask questions. Answer questions. Help someone solve a problem. Retweet an article. Comment on a blog. Show people what you know. Sometimes it’s okay to just sit back and observe what’s going on around you, but you will gain so much more by talking to people. So quit being a wallflower and get social. You won’t be disappointed.
